What is the Chevy Silverado frame recall about? (2023)

top answer

Alex S. December 15, 2020

The Chevy Silverado frame recall was issued because the frame was missing an anti-rust component in the metal that should have been included when the vehicle was manufactured. The frames on them are known to rust excessively and can damage the other components and weaken the frames. Chevy recalled the frames to put on an anti-rust coating to keep them from rusting as quickly as they have in the past. If you have your VIN number, you can submit the information to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and confirm whether or not your truck was subject to the recall.

I have a 2011 but it is the way it is, put 6k in it. There's me and other people on the road, the same truck as mine and the frame has been machined in the same place as my driver's side right next to the gas tank. I'm still afraid to drive my truck. Can I take this to dealer Manufaktur GMC?

2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab with 122,000 miles The frame is cracked on both sides. The left side breaks in numerous places and dissolves. I just paid it because I really loved this truck. How do you get in touch with people who have the same problems with rusted frames?

Anton Courtney 30.09.2022

My Silverado is rusting to pieces, nothing that hasn't rusted has the rust chipped off after two days of wire brushing and chiseling. I filled a 5 gallon bucket about 4 inches from the top with thick chunks of rusted metal, it makes no sense in this BS. Chevy will lose a lot of customers.

Alan Crawley 18. October 2022

I have a 2008 Silverado LT. I bought it in 2015 with 143,000 miles and washed it regularly (worked part time in a detail shop). I did everything I could within reason to keep this truck beautiful. Now at 193,000 miles the frame and body have disintegrated. I'm so pissed off and I can't afford to fix this pile right now.

Alex 7. November 2022

I have a 2004 Silverado 3500. The frame has a lot of rust and peeling. Chevy installed defective fuel injectors on this truck and failed the factory warranty. I bought new Ram Trucks for my business. Chevy was awful to deal with because of the Silverado's faulty fuel injectors. No more Chevys for me. (fool me once....)

SMOWB 28. October 2022

Bought brand new 2011 Silverado. The truck has always maintained, waxed and cleaned the undercarriage. Now 126,000 miles and the frame has cracked in 2 places. I love this truck and now it's junk.

My 2018 Silverado 1500 was bought in February 2019 and has less than 30,000 km (18,642 miles) and last November (2021) I took it back to the dealer as the entire frame had surface rust, they painted it afterwards and now, 10 months later, 80% of it has flaked off. GM and the dealer won't do anything about it as the warranty has expired and they say it's due to environmental conditions. Give me a break 10 months after it was axed and they tell me to make sure I prime it.

I bought my 2009 Chevy 1500 10 months ago, I'm the 2nd owner, 3 months after purchase I found that the frame and cross brace were completely rusted through, it took a month to fix, now the bed so rusted we have to hold it together with a tow strap n being told its impossible to find a used bed for this due to the recall, can't afford a brand new bed, I'm fucked right now I don't know what the previous owner did because of the recall but he did not fix it cant get another truck because it will take years to pay off the loan on this truck is there anything i can do to get help??

Silverado 1500 July 10, 2022

Apparently my 2008 is not part of the recall. BUT I decided to sell it because the underside of the truck hasn't rusted to anything. Everything is rusted, frame, hitch, differential case, control arm, shock absorber, rocker panel, rear bumper. It's so bad that I decided to sell it but once I handed it over I found a rust crack in the frame and rust/separation of the leaf spring bracket from the frame. ... Pity. I would have been a nice vehicle. Now it's just junk. I will never buy a GM truck again (and I own two Corvettes)!

JWilz July 4, 2022

Hit a pothole in my 2006 2500hd Chevy Duramax Diesel, the frame cracked at the left front lower arm, couldn't find a part to fix it, part of the frame..., 61,000 miles on it. This should never happen.
